7/18/05a

8:53 a.m. Old man #2 shows up on an ATV. He is wearing a ball cap and sunglasses. He wants to know if I need help with anything because, "...we saw you jus' sittin' out here." I tell him I am fine. He asks if I'm sure. I say I am.

The vultures are circling. It won't be long now...

I hear the sounds of pitchforks being sharpened in the background...

I hear them too. Hope you've got the pitchfork proof vest!

Not to worry. I've got my taser disguised as a cell phone.

*RING RING RING*

"Hello?...Sure, hold on a second."

"Old Man Smithers, it's for you..."

Polly, if anyone said something like "A little fear is healthy", would you listen?

Didn't think so. I'd join you in the nail biting, Tamara, but I cut them to short. Maybe I'll try something else.

Oops, drumming my fingers on the desk is getting my cube mates grumpy.

Hey Polly looks like you had a very busy weekend. I just caught up on your life. Now can someone help me catch up on mine?

It's not the pitchforks you have to worry about, it's the old Winchester coach guns these geezers have hidden under their beds. "If it was good 'nuff for my grand-pappy, it's good 'nuff fer me!" Good luck out there.

Ah yes. The joys of rural surveillance. When you hear the banjos playin', burn rubber and don't look back.

I've been hearing the banjos playing for a while. Should I be concerned?

If one of them says "my you got a purdy mauth". Do what John said.
