For true paranoia ... especially since you're a PI ... I'd be more concerned about some spy equipment stashed up inside the vent keeping tabs on you. You have checked it, haven't you?
Shoulda seen the dock spiders that crawled up on the white walls of my step-father's camp. They were as big as my hand, black, furry, and carried their egg sacks underneath them. *Shudder*
Don't photograph it, Polly! Take a shoe and smash that sucker! Do you have really high ceilings or something?
Of course, I'm the girl always called on to kill spiders/roaches/random bugs that other chicks are afraid of. Once my roommate asked me to shoo a bat out of her bedroom.
You can handle crime scenes and dead people but not spiders?
