6/20/05

6:42 a.m. Well, today I am outside of a Mobile station in small-town Wisconsin. I can't set up in front of my Subject's home because it's on a busy state road. On cases like this I would usually conduct a rolling surveillance all day long and likely wouldn't get any good footage. In this case, however, I got a break. The house is for sale and the client is allowing physical contact.

Looks like I'm going house hunting today, folks.

I will need to change clothes and develop an alias. I will need to come up with a list of questions that count. My Subject is an older lady who is supposed to wear an aircast boot and use crutches at all times.

Oh! I just thought of something! I can bring my camera in without her suspecting anything! She'll just think that I'm documenting the residence for my house hunting. This is going to be fantastic!

More later...

actually itd be an idea to say your looking for a house for your sister from overseas or somethin.. and she wants to know what they actually look like. Then you can avoid all the pesky questions! just an idea...

Good idea, me. I might just do that.

My pretext was going to be that I was taking video for my husband, who had to work and couldn't join us. But if I said it was for my sister I wouldn't have to get as detailed with financing questions and personal stuff.

I also wouldn't have to wear a fake wedding band.

This is so much fun to "experience" through your blog!!

You can't beat doing a little P.I. work AND getting to see prime real estate!

what is the funniest/weirdest/scariest thing you've seen while on surveillance?

have you ever been caught by a mark? if so what did you do??

if you were uncovered and attacked by a disgruntled subject, would you rather have a) a stun-gun b)a light saber or c) flirt your way out of it?

wat has been the greatest moment in your fantabulous career?

ever put your PI talents to personal use... e.g. dodgy boyfriends?

somethin i'd like to know! im sure others would too.

Just a suggestion, Polly, but call in advance to see if she will allow pictures or taping. When I sold a house in Houston, I refused to let lookers videotape the inside. Maybe it's my writer's imagination, but I could see all kinds of scenarios for someone to be able to later view the interior at their leisure in order to see what kind of goodies they could get when they later came back to rob the house.

Sling Words,

I purposely didn't ask her if I could bring the cam because as long as I have the camera with me, I can secretly record her even if she says no.

Sneaky, clever PI...

Then there's the whole "easier to ask for foregiveness than get permission" thing.

At least that seems to be my kids' motto.
